NSSGA Young Leaders: A Great Opportunity!

National Stone, Sand, & Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Young Leaders began in 1992 when a need for young people in the aggregates industry to grow their professional networks was identified. Young Leaders is a group of approximately 300 aggregate professionals, under the age of 40, who are committed to learning from seasoned executives, improving their leadership skills, and helping one another succeed in our industry.

Our Very Own Young Leader

Sayler Thomas, NorX Customer Service Representative, had the opportunity to attend an NSSGA Young Leaders meet up hosted at the Omni Hotel in The Battery Atlanta of Georgia on August 21-22. The first day started strong with a professional development session led by Brendan Devereaux, Vice President of Aggregates for Hamm, Inc. This was followed by a reception and a night of networking at the Phillies game.

“The NSSGA Young Leaders meet up was such a wonderful event! I recommend attending an event of theirs to anyone who can! It was so nice to meet others in the industry who are in my age demographic,” said Sayler who mentioned meeting many people from Vulcan, Luck Stone, Martin Marrietta, and Komatsu.

Visiting the Komatsu Training Center and Luck Stone Atlanta Plant

The second day of the event, attendees were given the opportunity to visit the Komatsu Training Center in Cartersville, GA. After a presentation from Komatsu staff on the training center, customers, and safety, they were allowed to operate equipment frequently utilized in the industry. The trip to the Komatsu Training Center was followed up by a tour of the Luck Stone Atlanta Plant.

“It was so exciting to experience the machinery firsthand at Komatsu and go to my first quarry at Luck Stone. I learned a lot and met a ton of great people. I hope to attend another NSSGA Young Leaders meet up in the future.” Said, Sayler.
